Description
Command with Strength – Armor of the Sengoku Vanguard
The Gomai Do Yoroi is one of the most evolved samurai armor designs developed during the turbulent Sengoku Era. Named for its go-mai dō (five-section cuirass), this armor features a robust yet adaptable construction with hinged segments on the front, back, sides, and an underarm half-plate, all joined together for superior flexibility and battlefield repairability. It quickly became a favorite among high-ranking warriors and Daimyo for its durability and ease of customization.
Each suit is handcrafted by senior katchû-shi (Japanese armorers) of Iron Mountain Armory, using a traditional yokohagi-okegawa configuration with ito-mono (long horizontal plates) to ensure a visually imposing and functionally superior armor set. This design was favored by several prominent clans, most notably the Date Clan, who popularized their unique variant known as the Yukinoshita Do, or Sendai Do.
The featured 8-ken hari-bachi kabuto (laminated helmet with eight plates) is adorned with a removable yak hair pony tail and kata jiro (decorative brass fittings), giving the wearer a commanding battlefield presence. The armor also includes a hōate (chin-protecting mask) and optional upgrades for different mengu (facial armor) styles, allowing each warrior to tailor their set to personal or clan preferences.
Like all Taisho-class armor, this suit is full-sized, fully functional, and built for martial practice, reenactment, or museum-grade display. Custom sizing, color selections, and mon (clan crest) placement options are available, making each set a unique legacy of craftsmanship.
