Description
Forged for Battle – Armor of the Warring States Elite
The Sengoku Go-Mai Yoroi is a historically significant and visually commanding Taisho-class yoroi (armor set), expertly crafted by the senior katchû-shi (Japanese armor smiths) at Iron Mountain Armory. Inspired by an original piece from the Sengoku Era (Warring States Period), this armor is a testament to innovation and evolution in samurai protection.
Featuring a go-mai dō (five-section cuirass) joined by four robust hinges, this design became one of the most advanced and resilient tosei gusoku (modern armors) of the era. Its segmented structure provided exceptional durability while offering modular flexibility for repairs, upgrades, or size adjustments—making it a favorite among seasoned samurai. The armor is built in the yokohagi-okegawa configuration with ita-mono (solid horizontal plates), delivering both functionality and visual prestige.
The Sengoku Go-Mai Yoroi is traditionally worn without sode (shoulder guards), emphasizing a stripped-down, combat-focused aesthetic; however, we include a matching set of sode for those seeking a more complete look. This set is pictured with an Etchū Zunari Kabuto (helmet) featuring mayu (simulated eyebrows), a detail you can customize along with the style of your kabuto, menpō (face mask), color scheme, and armor fit.
This yoroi is a refined example of late-Sengoku battlefield armor, crafted to convey power, discipline, and nobility. Whether for martial arts use, collection, or ceremonial display, it serves as an iconic reminder of the warrior’s path.
