Embrace the Spirit of Bishamonten: Armor of the Dragon of Echigo

Uesugi Kenshin (上杉 謙信), revered as “The Dragon of Echigo,” was one of the most feared and respected Daimyo during the late Sengoku period. Known for his fierce rivalry with Takeda Shingen, Kenshin was a master of both battlefield strategy and spiritual devotion. His faith in Bishamonten (the Buddhist god of war) earned him the title “Avatar of Bishamonten,” and his warriors believed divine power flowed through him as he rode into battle.

Our Taisho class reproduction of Kenshin’s armor set embodies his strength, discipline, and spiritual intensity. Crafted by our senior katchû-shi (Japanese armor smith) at Iron Mountain Armory, this suit is a premium work of traditional art. Every component is forged using historically accurate designs with the utmost attention to detail. Each suit takes over 150 hours to complete, using traditional materials and techniques passed down through generations.

This exquisite gusoku (armor set) features a robust okegawa dō (clam-shell cuirass) in deep black with striking blue odoshi (lacing). The kabuto (helmet) is adorned with a fierce dragon maedate (crest), and comes with the iconic Buddhist juzu (prayer beads), symbolizing Kenshin’s spiritual strength. The sode (shoulder guards), haidate (thigh guards), and kote (armored sleeves) are traditionally hand-laced and carefully finished to create an aura of prestige and intimidation.

You may further customize your armor by selecting alternate kabuto, menpō (face mask), or suneate (shin guards). Additional options such as alternate crest designs, different lacing styles, and lacquer finishes are also available.

  • Taisho Class quality: superior craftsmanship with museum-quality detailing
