Description
Become the wandering warrior with unmatched authenticity!
The Samurai Ronin Accessory Kit is a comprehensive collection of traditional gear that every ronin or traveling warrior would have proudly worn. This meticulously assembled kit includes a sandogasa (ronin hat, also known as a messenger hat), a mino (rain cape), waraji (samurai sandals), and tabi (sandal socks) – all essential clothing accessories for a samurai on the move. The sandogasa is a wide, deep hat woven from bamboo palms, lightweight yet robust enough to protect the shoulders from rain and sun. Inside, a round band called an atamadai ensures a comfortable, secure fit. If you would like to add a clothing set to this kit, we suggest the Hitatare Kamishimo (traditional clothing set) or Yoroi Hitatare (under armor clothing) as samurai clothing sets most ronin would be wearing.
Sandogasa (Ronin Samurai Hat) is a wide, deep hat woven from bamboo palms, making it very light weight. It is wide enough to protect the shoulders from rain and sun, while being deep enough to protect the eyes from the sun while not blocking the face from view. Inside there is a round band called an atamadai which helps the hat fit comfortably on your head.
Mino are samurai rain cape or cloak made from natural palm material and treated with a light natural wax to help repel water, while maintaining the longevity of the palm. Each samurai rain cape is meticulously and tightly hand-woven from natural palm fibers collected nearby the Iron Mountain Armory. The mino or samurai rain cape, are worn over the armor to help protect the armor from the rain and snow, while keeping the warrior warm and dry inside.
Waraji (草鞋), are sandals made from rice straw rope that, in the Sengoku and Edo Eras, were the standard footwear of the common people in Japan. Also adopted by the Samurai, they allowed for defter movement. Traditionally, samurai would wear their waraji with their toes protruding slightly over the front edge. This helped them keep their traction while running, scaling walls and fighting.
Tabi Socks are traditional Japanese socks which date back to the 15th century. They are ankle-high and come with a separation between the big toe and the other toes. They are traditionally worn with waraji (straw sandals)
Historically, not only samurai but also Japanese farmers, peasants, merchants, and travelers wore similar ensembles, demonstrating the versatility and timeless practicality of these accessories. Whether for reenactment, cosplay, LARP, or SCA dress wear, this kit captures the authentic spirit of traditional Japanese attire. For an even more complete ronin look, consider pairing this kit with additional accessories such as the uwa-obi (outer belt), suitou (samurai canteen), or yugake (samurai gloves).
