Embrace the timeless protection of a warrior in every storm!

Mino are traditional samurai rain capes or cloaks made from natural palm fibers that are meticulously hand-woven by artisans near Iron Mountain Armory. These capes are treated with a light, natural wax that repels water while preserving the longevity of the palm, ensuring that you remain warm and dry, even in the harshest weather conditions. Worn over armor, the mino protects your precious armor from rain and snow, while providing a comfortable barrier to keep the warrior warm inside.

Historically, mino were not exclusive to the samurai; Japanese farmers, peasants, merchants, and travelers all donned these versatile rain capes—albeit in smaller sizes—to shield themselves from the elements. Among the warrior class, mino were a standard piece of attire, worn by samurai of all ranks, as well as ronin, shinobi, monks, and other adventurers on the road. Today, our traditional samurai rain capes can be worn with or without armor and pair beautifully with accessories like the sandogasa (messenger’s hat).

At Iron Mountain Armory, each mino is handcrafted with historical accuracy, making them the perfect addition for reenactors, cosplay enthusiasts, LARPers, or anyone looking to honor traditional Japanese garments. These authentic rain capes have been featured in various documentaries and the recent docudrama “Age of Samurai: Battle for Japan” by Netflix and the Smithsonian Channel. Elevate your wardrobe or display your heritage with a mino that speaks to the enduring legacy of the samurai.

I bought four of these, one for everyone in the family!
Not only do I think they will be great in the rain, but for repelling bugs like mosquitos!
I cannot see any bug getting past all that weaving and the edging you can see in the photo.
I think it will act as a baffle to the bugs.
The cape has a lower portion, you also can see in the photo, which covers your back, and legs, in my case, almost down to my knees.
I am 5’3″, so it will be a bit shorter on a taller person,
but I think the bugs will leave me alone this spring!
