Noble Precision
Tradition Reborn in Modern Steel
The Kiritsuke Iyo-zane Gashira Samurai Armor is a sophisticated revival of classic kozane (scale-plate) design, crafted with precision by the senior katchû-shi (Japanese armor smiths) of Iron Mountain Armory. Designed for the modern warrior who honors the past, this Gashira Class yoroi (armor set) merges the revered aesthetic of classical samurai armor with the robust practicality of the tosei era (post-1550 modern period).
Historically, iyo-zane were wide scale plates painstakingly laced together in massive numbers to create highly flexible, form-fitting armor. This construction wrapped around the samurai, offering unmatched mobility and a commanding silhouette. However, the labor-intensive process was both time-consuming and costly. As warfare evolved during the Sengoku period, so did armor design. The result: kiritsuke iyo-zane, or simulated scale armor.
This set replicates the classic look while offering modern ease and enhanced strength. Crafted from embossed steel sheets, the dō (cuirass) simulates the layered scales of traditional armor but with improved structural integrity. The armor is assembled as a ni-mai dō (two-section cuirass) and fastened with a secure okegawa (pin-hinge) design, making it both efficient to wear and historically authentic.
Unique to this Gashira Class version is its enhanced kote (armored sleeves) and haidate (armored thigh guards), fitted with kusari (chain mail) between the plates. This adds greater flexibility to the thighs and arms, allowing the armor to mold to the wearer’s body while providing superior protection—an upgrade worthy of a wealthy samurai or officer preparing for battle or ceremony.
This armor is crafted in your choice of paint and odoshi (lace) color, and can be further customized with your preferred kabuto (helmet), menpō (facial armor), suneate (shin guards), and mon (clan crest). Whether displayed with pride or worn in martial practice, it serves as a tribute to the elegance, resilience, and legacy of Japan’s most noble warriors.

(The pictures with the red lace is my armor.) I am in love with my Suit of Armor. I do not take part in any re-enactment/ full contact duals so my armor is merely for display and occasional dress up. I got the more expensive Taisho class for an extra $400 and I’m very pleased with the choice. I’m 5’10” so I had to spend a little extra to have it made in my size, but they got it just right. The armor fits great. I was very happy they even threw in a pair of Waraji and Tabi Socks because I was worried about what type of shoes to wear with it. (though this might have just been a free gift only for Me due to me spending so much already). Once my Katana I’m having made with another company arrives, I will have the full outfit to make everyone jealous. If you love Japanese culture, and you have the money to spare, you will not regret buying one of these amazing Suits of Armor. In my life, I have a beautiful conversation piece of art; but for my kids, they will have a beautiful inheritance.
As the review above, I had this same armor made for myself and it is just phenomenal! The personal and reliably fast communication by the staff when answering questions and helping me figure out what I wanted and what worked best for me and keeping me updated cannot be matched by anyone else in this business I doubt. Worth every dime! Thanks!
