Embrace comfort and protection with traditional padding!

The yoroi obi is a padded belt designed to be worn under the do (cuirass) of your samurai armor, while it can also be displayed over the armor for an impressive presentation. Its primary purpose is to serve as a bolster, absorbing the weight and pressure of the do as it rests upon your hips. Paired with the sarashi obi—a linen belt used to secure the do to your waist—the yoroi obi ensures that your armor stays firmly in place, allowing for ease of movement while providing essential support.

Iron Mountain Armory offers two styles of the padded yoroi obi. The first, the round yoroi obi, is commonly seen with antique samurai armor sets and became popular during the Edo (peaceful) Era for ceremonial wear. The second, the large padded yoroi obi, is a more generous version offering additional comfort and protection. This larger style was favored during the Sengoku (warring state) Era when samurai spent extended periods on campaign. For those planning to wear their armor, especially for training, the large yoroi obi is highly recommended. We prefer using asa (hemp) as the material for durability, though other fabric options are available if desired.

Key Features & Benefits:

  • Traditional Design: Reflects time-honored techniques used to secure the do and enhance mobility.
  • Two Style Options:
    • Round Yoroi Obi: Approximately 10 cm in circumference, ideal for display and ceremonial use.
    • Large Yoroi Obi: Approximately 30 cm in circumference, offering extra comfort and protection for extended wear.
  • Custom Sizing & Material Options: Tailor the length to your waist; note that we add an extra 35 cm to your requested length for proper wrapping.
  • Versatile Use: Can be worn under armor for training or over armor when on display.

    • Thank you Jon for taking the time to write your review. Your obi was handmade to the specific length you requested in your order. If the quality is great and we made it to the specific length you requested, why did you rate it only 3 stars?
