A Bold Statement of Rank, Detail, and Samurai Discipline

The Gashira Suji-Bachi Kabuto is a handcrafted samurai helmet forged in the traditional suji-bachi style, known for its raised ridges—suji—that highlight the precise joining of multiple ken (plates) to form the bachi (bowl). This iconic design, dating back to the Sengoku and Edo periods, symbolizes the strength, precision, and dedication of the samurai class.

Crafted by Iron Mountain Armory’s skilled Gashira-class katchū-shi (armorers), this helmet is available in two forms:

  • Laminated Suji-Bachi: Built from individually cut, shaped, and riveted steel plates. Spot welding is sometimes used for reinforcement while preserving the handcrafted integrity.

  • Simulated Suji-Bachi: Offers a more economical option, using copper tubing to imitate the ridges. These simulated so fukurin (decorative moldings) can be painted over or left bare upon request for a more authentic look.

The kabuto shown is configured with 18 plates, kiritsuke kozane (simulated narrow scale) shikoro (neck guard) and tare (throat guard), complete with copper fukurin (rim edging) and custom fukigaeshi mon (crest emblems) for an extra touch of refinement. Fully laced in kebiki-odoshi (full lacing), the design balances beauty and function, showcasing the status of a Gashira (non-commissioned officer) samurai.

Each helmet is full-sized and fully functional, suitable for martial arts training, reenactment, or display. You can further customize your kabuto by selecting your preferred mengu (facial armor)—either menpō (half-face with nose) or hanbō (lower face only)—and even add unique mustache styles for a personal touch.

This kabuto stands as a proud testament to the warrior’s path—blending historical craftsmanship with modern customizability.

Key Features & Benefits

  • Authentic Multi-Plate Design: Choose between true laminated suji-bachi construction or simulated so fukurin ridges.

  • Customizable Components: Select paint finish, odoshi (lace) color, mon, fukurin, and mengu to match your warrior persona.

  • Kiritsuke Kozane Armor Detailing: Simulated scale lames replicate traditional Japanese armor techniques.

  • Full Kebiki-Odoshi Lacing: Dense lacing provides a rich and traditional look, showcasing skilled craftsmanship.

  • Includes Portable Stand: Display your kabuto with pride when not in use.
