Description
Strength from the Baseplate
A Testament to the Iron Resolve of the Samurai
The Yokohagi Suso no Ita Samurai Armor is a masterfully crafted suit of Gashira Class armor, designed by the senior katchû-shi at Iron Mountain Armory. The term suso no ita refers to the lowermost lame or plate in items such as the shikoro (helmet neck guard), sode (shoulder guards), or tare (throat guard), and it’s a critical component for strength and mobility. This attention to structural detail is what sets this armor apart.
Built using the famed Tosei Yokohagi Okegawa Ni-Mai Dō (“modern” two-section cuirass with horizontal plating joined by a pin hinge), this style became one of the most dominant armor constructions during the final century of the Sengoku Jidai. The Okegawa Dō is formed from overlapping horizontal lames, smoothed, painted, and laced with your choice of odoshi color for both aesthetic flair and battlefield symbolism.
Clients may opt to add buji-taki (rivets) for a bolder, more commanding appearance. You may also customize the helmet (kabuto), face mask (menpō), and shin guards (suneate) to suit your warrior spirit. Our skilled armorers will craft your yoroi using traditional patterns and materials, enhanced with modern tools for precise and lasting craftsmanship.
Whether for martial arts practice, historical reenactment, LARP, or proud display in your home or dojo, this suit of samurai armor stands as a fully functional, wearable work of art—ready to embody the strength, discipline, and honor of its legacy.

Overall good quality product. I ordered one size too tall, so while not 100% to my size it still fits well enough to wear once in a while. A couple mail rings came off for no reason on one sleeve. One rivet on the kabuto and another on the do are slightly loose. Cloth underneath left-side sode started coming off, but I was able to sew it back on without much difficulty. If you don’t mind these minor defects (these are handmade after all) it’s worth the price.
Impressive quality. Crafting was faster than I expected and customer service was genuinely awesome.
The armor fits well and the quality is impressive, this looks and feels like it would belong in a museum, and reminded me of the illustrations in Absolon’s book. I haven’t found any issue in the gusoku, the cloth is strong and the armor is comfortable.
This is the kind of quality you would only see in Japan.
Outstanding quality and attention to every detail. Honestly, I was a little doubtful with all the great reviews, but after the fast email responses, telephone conversation and great customer service, I felt confident to place my order. They kept me informed of the progress, even sending pictures and less then 2 months later (sooner then expected) I had my very own custom samurai armor set. My childhood dream has come true! Thank you!!
