Description
Embrace the honor of your clan and march into battle with distinction!
Sashimono are traditional war banners worn by both ashigaru and samurai, designed to display a Daimyo or samurai clan’s mon (symbol) and unit details on the battlefield. Typically attached to the back of a warrior via a gattari and machi-uke bracket system and supported by a dake-no-koto (bamboo banner pole), these banners allowed warriors to be easily identified by their clan affiliations while marching or in combat. Elite warriors even featured their own personal designs on their banners.
Iron Mountain Armory offers a range of custom options to make your sashimono uniquely yours. Our banners are handcrafted from asa (hemp linen) and are available in three standard sizes:
- Small: 76 x 24 cm
- Medium: 100 x 45 cm
- Large: 190 x 58 cm
You can choose from various linen colors and mon options, including a standard clan mon or your own custom design. We offer two printing options for your design: a traditional screen printing method, which allows the ink to absorb into the fabric for a lasting finish (though natural ink bleeding may occur), or a modern vinyl heat transfer that offers a more vibrant contrast. For those desiring a more pronounced display, we also provide the option for double-sided printing—please note that this may require extra material to prevent shadowing or bleed-through on the reverse side.
Important Ordering Information:
- The sashimono is sold without the dake-no-koto (bamboo banner pole), ukezutsu (banner base), or hatadai (portable floor stand), which are available as separate accessories.
- To wear your banner with your armor, you will need to order the gattari/machi-uke system separately if not included in your armor set.
- Traditional printing may result in some faded, vintage effects due to natural ink bleeding, while modern printing may exhibit minor defects such as cracking or flaking of the vinyl transfer.
- When selecting your mon printing option, choose between the traditional “Single Side” or the modern “Double Side” option.
- For a dark banner with a light design, we recommend modern printing to avoid a faded appearance.
