Trusted Protection for Ashigaru, Shinobi & Samurai on the Move

Kachi Tatami Karuta Yoroi is a historically accurate, lightweight suit of tatami (folding) armor worn by ashigaru (foot soldiers), shinobi (ninja), and lower-ranking samurai during the Sengoku Era of feudal Japan. This practical armor features karuta (small square steel plates) sewn onto a cloth backing to form a highly flexible, easily transportable defense—perfect for long campaigns or stealth missions.

The (chest armor) and kusazuri (thigh guards) offer flexibility with small gaps between the karuta, while basic kote (armored sleeves) and suneate (shin guards) use shino (splint) plates sewn to durable linen for a balance of protection and affordability. This economical set is an ideal option for martial artists, re-enactors, LARP, and cosplay enthusiasts seeking functional, entry-level samurai armor. Optional under padding can be added for increased comfort and impact resistance.

(Please excuse grammar, im german) As the name says, Kachi is the simplest of the versions of this armor. But still it fits really well, it seems very durable and its easy to put on, even alone. The sleeves are a bit of a struggle to tie in a way to have freedom of movement, but thats just a characteristic of a historical Tatami Armor. The only downside are the little loops on the hand parts of the sleeves where you put your fingers through. They seem to have a joint that is a bit of a weakpoint and one of mine is already a bit loose. But its easy to replace and i know from modern jackets that these loops are always weakpoints, so still 5 stars.
