Timeless elegance and warmth with every step!

Kegutsu (also known as tsuranuki or “samurai shoes”) were once the height of fashion among high-ranking samurai, worn during ceremonies and winter months to keep their feet warm. These ornate boots, crafted from premium materials such as bear or deer fur, horse or yak hair, along with kawa (leather or hide) and asa (hemp/cotton linen), provided excellent insulation and durability. Today, our Kegutsu are meticulously handcrafted using four layers of durable asa (hemp) paper and leather. This multi-layer construction forms a firm boot that gradually molds to your foot with use, ensuring a unique and personalized fit.

We offer an option to cover your Kegutsu with either natural horse tail or yak hair for an added touch of authenticity. To better complement your samurai armor or clothing set, these boots can be embellished with hemp linen, leather, or art silk brocades. While suitable for light outdoor wear, they are ideally designed for ceremonial and casual use. A very unique gift item, our Kegutsu also make a striking display accessory when showcased alongside a samurai armor set.

Due to the variability of foot sizes and shapes, these traditional shoes can be molded over time. We recommend ordering them several centimeters larger than your usual size to ensure the best fit, as it is easier to fill extra space with a sock than to wear overly tight shoes. Some minor modifications, such as using warm water to gently mold the interior, may be required for an optimal fit. For any inquiries regarding our samurai armor, clothing, or accessories, please contact us via our online form or the “Customer Support” button at the top of the page.
