Description
Complete Your Samurai Armor with Elegant Authenticity!
The Agemaki no Kan is a traditional brass swivel ring essential to authentic samurai armor. Mounted on various parts of a warrior’s armor, these distinctive rings served both decorative and practical purposes. Commonly attached to the back of a Kabuto (helmet), Dō (cuirass), or Sode (shoulder armor), these rings were primarily used to display ornamental bows, known as Agemaki, adding elegance and status to a warrior’s appearance.
Historically, the positioning and naming of the rings varied according to their specific function:
- Agemaki no Kan: Positioned at the back of armor, prominently displaying decorative bows symbolizing rank and distinction.
- Saihai no Kan: Located on the right breastplate to secure the commander’s baton (Saihai).
- Tenugui no Kan: Mounted on the left breastplate to hold a cloth (Tenugui) or other ceremonial items.
- Kasa jirushi no Kan: Found on the rear of the Kabuto, intended for mounting flags or other identifying emblems.
- Mizunomi no Kan: Installed on the Sode, further enhancing the ornamental detail of the armor.
Each Agemaki no Kan set from Iron Mountain Armory includes two finely crafted brass rings, each complete with a mounting disc and brass rivet (Byo) for easy installation. The rivet’s traditional design features two prongs that insert through existing holes (8–10 mm diameter) in the armor. After insertion, the prongs are bent outward and flattened, securely fixing the rings. A leather patch may be placed over the prongs historically to ensure safety during combat, allowing the ring to detach easily if grabbed or pulled by an enemy.
Expertly crafted, these brass fittings replicate historical samurai armor components from the Sengoku and Edo eras, providing both authenticity and durability. Perfect for restoration projects, armor customization, or to enhance display pieces, the Agemaki no Kan elevates any samurai armor with historical precision and visual prestige.
