Enhance & Restore Your Samurai Armor with Authentic Decorative Rivets

Byō are decorative rivets used in samurai armor to secure plates together while adding an ornamental touch. Over time, these rivets may loosen, get damaged, or need replacement, especially on antique or well-worn yoroi. Iron Mountain Armory offers two traditional styles of byō, allowing you to choose the best option for your restoration, customization, or DIY armor project.

Two Traditional Styles of Byō Available:

  • Hassō-byō (八双鋲) – These decorative brass or copper rivets feature intricate embossed or engraved designs. Commonly used on the do (cuirass), sode (shoulder guards), and kabuto (helmet), these add a traditional and ornate aesthetic to your armor.
  • Hon-byō (本鋲) – These domed rivets are primarily structural, designed to secure armor plates together. Found more frequently on lacquered samurai armor, they provide a seamless, functional finish while maintaining traditional aesthetics.

These byō are designed to be removable, making replacement and adjustments easy. They feature two narrow legs that slide through existing odoshi (lace) holes, then flatten out to hold securely in place.

Key Features & Benefits:

  • Authentic Restoration Option: Ideal for restoring antique or modern yoroi.
  • Two Traditional Styles: Choose between ornate hassō-byō for decoration or domed hon-byō for structural integrity.
  • Brass or Copper Material: Crafted from high-quality metal to match historical armor designs.
  • Sold in Sets: Each order includes 4 byō for your armor project.
