Embellish and Reinforce Your Yoroi with Traditional Elegance

Fukurin is a decorative trim used to embellish and reinforce the edges of armor and clothing. This intricate detailing can be made from various materials, including asa (hemp linen), kawa (leather), akagane (copper), sentoku (brass), kin (gold), or a mixture of metals. In samurai armor, fukurin typically refers to a decorative metal edging, while leather fukurin is known as kawa fukurin (leather trim), and cloth fukurin is often referred to as asa fukurin or sasaheri (cloth trim). Regardless of the material, fukurin serves the same purpose and usually features patterns or designs that are painted or engraved.

Iron Mountain Armory is proud to support the samurai armor restoration and DIY communities by offering hard-to-find traditional materials for yoroi (samurai armor). Our fukurin is available in several traditional materials and color options with authentic printing. True to tradition, we stencil the designs onto the material, giving it a vintage look. Each quantity is standard 5 meters, sufficient for any section of armor, such as the suji-bachi kabuto or the do (cuirass). For a complete armor set, we recommend ordering 15 meters, providing extra material for any mistakes or side projects. To order 15 meters, select a quantity of 3 when purchasing. Additionally, jabara-fuse (pleated cord trim) is always used to outline the trim of fukurin on yoroi, and it is available in our online store’s DIY section.

A very useful product that will add that final finishing touch to a homemade suit of Samurai armor I am putting together. I would have given it five stars, but this soft copper trim was rather tightly wound up when packed, so it’s a little difficult to straighten up without damaging it.

Good overall. I was able to complete my project. However, the printed ink seemed a bit thin is some areas and I could not use it.

    • Thank you for your honest and clear review. Although this issue it is noted that the product description when saying “Keeping with tradition we stencil the designs onto the material which may leave a vintage look” we will work to make this statement more clear. This is the issue we face when making traditionally handmade items, they do not always have the same consistent quality as modern factory made items. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we consistently work to improve our craft from the suggestions of our valued clients.
