Ride the Wind – Armor of Status & Ceremony

The Go-Mai Dō Kazaori Eboshi Samurai Armor is a breathtaking tribute to an iconic style of kabuto (helmet) worn by elite commanders during Japan’s transition from the Sengoku (Warring States) to the early Edo period. Featuring the rare kazaori eboshi kabuto (wind-folded court cap-style helmet), this set invokes a legacy of nobility, coming-of-age ritual, and battlefield command. Inspired by helmets worn by such renowned figures as Maeda Toshiie and Katō Kiyomasa, this armor is a statement of power, maturity, and respect.

The eboshi—originally a formal court cap from the Heian era—was later adapted as a symbol of adult status during the gempuku (coming-of-age ceremony). Its deliberately wind-swept design captures a dynamic, ever-forward presence. Combined with the go-mai dō (five-section cuirass), this set offers superior adjustability, comfort, and customization for elite warriors. Favored for its robustness and ease of repair, this allows for sectional replacement and artistic detail, exemplifying the blend of tradition and practical innovation.

This armor also features kiritsuke iyozane (simulated scale plating) on the sode (shoulder guards) and kusazuri (skirt plating), masterfully assembled to honor historical design while allowing for modern-day customization. Our Taisho-class katchû-shi (armor smiths) at Iron Mountain Armory handcraft each suit using traditional techniques passed down through generations. Minimal modern tools are used, ensuring unmatched quality and authenticity.

We offer extensive customization: choose your kabuto style, menpō (mask), suneate (shin guards), odoshi (lace) colors, and paint finishes to make your armor truly yours.

Key Features & Benefits:

  • Taisho Class handcrafted excellence, historically accurate
  • Full-sized & fully functional for display, martial arts, or reenactment
  • Rare eboshi style kabuto with dynamic, ceremonial design
