Description
The Classic Ridged Helmet Worn by Daimyo and Elite Samurai
The Hineno Suji-Bachi Kabuto is a masterfully handcrafted kabuto (helmet) forged in the traditional suji-bachi (ridged bowl) style and paired with the elegant hineno-shikoro—a hallmark of high-ranking samurai and daimyo during the turbulent Sengoku Jidai (Warring States Period).
Expertly crafted by the elite Taisho-class katchū-shi (armorers) at Iron Mountain Armory, this helmet features individually shaped steel ken (plates), riveted together to form the signature hachi (bowl). The result is a robust yet refined helmet, with visible suji (ridges) that showcase the meticulous plate assembly—both structurally sound and visually striking. Upon request, the bugyō (rivets) can be filed smooth for a polished, minimalist appearance.
What defines this kabuto further is its use of the hineno-shikoro (fitted neck guard), which offers superior neck and shoulder protection while enhancing comfort and stability during wear. The fukigaeshi (turnbacks or ears), shaped in the hineno style, complement the profile and historical silhouette of this battlefield-ready design.
The suji-bachi kabuto was the principal helmet style worn by elite warriors from the mid-Sengoku period through the Edo era, symbolizing authority, protection, and refined taste. Your Hineno Suji-Bachi Kabuto can be fully customized with your choice of mengu (face armor)—including menpō (half face with nose) or hanbō (lower face)—and finished with your selection of paint, art silk odoshi (lacing) colors, and crest options to reflect your clan or personal legacy.
Whether for reenactment, display, or as the crowning piece in a full yoroi (armor set), this kabuto offers exceptional craftsmanship rooted in martial history.
