Tradition Refined in the Art of War
The Hineno Zunari Bachi Kabuto is part of Iron Mountain Armory’s Taisho Class—our Elite Series of armor crafting—where historical accuracy, function, and craftsmanship converge to honor the legacy of the samurai warrior. The zunari bachi (head-shaped bowl) is a time-tested design, revered for its practicality and resilience in battle.
This traditional kabuto is handcrafted by our senior katchū-shi (armorers) using three individually cut and shaped steel plates, joined to form the iconic hachi (helmet bowl). Unlike modern pressed or simulated forms, each component of this Elite Series helmet is riveted together by hand, preserving the techniques passed down from the Sengoku period.
The helmet is completed with a classic hineno jikoro—a closely fitted shikoro (neck guard) shaped to the shoulders for maximum comfort and fluidity of movement. Each plate of the shikoro is cut, shaped, and hand-laced in odoshi sugake (simple hang) using your selected color of art silk odoshi, enhancing both function and traditional beauty. The interior is lined with a carefully installed ukebari (helmet lining) for long-term comfort and durability.
The Hineno Zunari Bachi kabuto represents a functional battlefield design—sleek, durable, and worn by warriors of all ranks. Its balanced silhouette and form-fitting shikoro make it especially suitable for martial artists, reenactors, and collectors seeking an authentic yet wearable piece of Japanese armor history.
You may further customize your kabuto with your preferred mengu (facial armor)—including menpō (half-face with nose) or hanbō (lower face)—for a complete, personalized warrior presentation.
