Showcase Your Samurai Heritage with Distinction!

Jinbaori (陣羽織, surcoat) is an iconic garment traditionally worn by high-ranking samurai over their armor, not just for protection against the elements but also as a bold statement of their social status and family lineage, prominently displaying their mon (family crest). Originating from the late 16th century garment known as the dofuku, Jinbaori quickly became a favored attire among influential samurai due to their elegance, comfort, and versatility.

Characterized by broad lapels designed to reveal luxurious inner linings and a single slit at the back for enhanced mobility, the Jinbaori seamlessly combines function and fashion. Historically, Jinbaori were crafted from diverse fabrics, including richly textured brocades, wool, fine cotton, and later, luxurious silk—often incorporating imported textiles from China and Europe. By the early 17th century, the sleeveless Jinbaori had become a prestigious symbol of rank and wealth, favored for ceremonial occasions and battlefield use alike.
