Embrace the explosive legacy of the warrior with every measured charge!

The Kayaku Ire (Powder Flask) and Koyaku Ire (Small Dust Container) are essential components for the teppo tai (Japanese gunners or riflemen). In ancient times, the kayaku served as the primary flask to hold the main powder charge when a hayago (fast-loading tube) was not used. During operation, the gunpowder was poured down the teppo cannon, followed by a wadding, an iron ball, and then propelled by the karuka (ramrod). Complementing this, the smaller koyaku ire was used to hold a finer, precisely measured amount of gunpowder in a covered container.

Traditionally, both the kayaku ire and koyaku ire were crafted from lacquered or pumpkin wood and often ornately decorated. To recreate the historic display of the wrath (jar) of kayaku along with the hayago and the doran (ammo box), these flasks are indispensable accessories for your teppo setup. At Iron Mountain Armory, we manufacture these powder flasks by hand using locally sourced gourds, natural rope, and a bamboo plug equipped with a rubber ring for a secure fit. You also have the option to customize your jar with your samurai clan mon or a custom logo for a small fee. (Please note that customization may extend the processing time.)
