Reinforce Your Armor with Legendary Kikko Protection!
For centuries, kikko armor has been revered for its exceptional blend of flexibility and protection. Inspired by the natural strength of a turtle’s shell, kikko consists of small iron (or hardened leather) hexagonal plates sewn between layers of asa (hemp) or silk. This unique construction creates a lightweight yet highly durable brigandine armor that provides excellent resistance against slashing and thrusting attacks.
Popular among both samurai and ashigaru (foot soldiers), kikko was commonly used in tatami (folding) armor, including tate-eri (shoulder padding), suneate (shin guards), and manchira (brigandine vest). It was often integrated with kusari (chainmail) or odoshi (armor lacing) to enhance durability and mobility, making it an indispensable part of a warrior’s defense. Whether layered under do (cuirass) for added protection or crafted into standalone armor components, kikko remains one of the most versatile forms of samurai armor.
