Fortify Your Core with the Strength of Hexagonal Armor

Kikko Gane Obi is a traditional samurai armored belt, expertly crafted using interlocked kikko (hexagonal steel plates) quilted between layers of asa (hemp linen). This flexible yet durable armored obi (belt) was designed to protect the stomach and hips while ensuring the wearer’s mobility remained unimpeded. The kikko gane obi offered critical reinforcement for warriors in combat, shielding vulnerable gaps between the do (cuirass) and kusazuri (tassets).

During the Sengoku era, samurai and daimyo alike favored this auxiliary armor for its superior protection against slashes and thrusts. The obi could be worn over or under the urugi ito (armor lacing), preventing the laces from being severed during combat. In times of peace during the Edo era, it became a common piece of formal battle attire, worn without additional armor for ceremonial purposes.

Iron Mountain Armory faithfully reproduces this time-honored protective belt, ensuring a balance between authenticity and comfort. We offer optional hishi-nui (decorative knots) in odoshi (armor lacing) for added structural reinforcement and customization. For those seeking additional padding, an internal lining can be added to improve both comfort and protection. This versatile armor is ideal for samurai armor restoration, reenactment, martial arts training, and historical display.

Key Features & Benefits:

  • Authentic Sengoku-Era Design: Historically accurate kikko armor construction for superior protection.
  • Layered Defense: Hexagonal steel plates reinforced with asa (hemp linen) resist slashing and thrusting attacks.
  • Customizable Fit & Style: Choose from various colors, lengths, and optional hishi-nui (decorative knots).
  • Flexible & Comfortable: Protects without restricting movement, ideal for combat and formal wear.
  • Perfect for Reenactments & Displays: Essential for samurai armor collectors, LARP, SCA, and martial artists.
