The Ko-Gashira Momonari Kabuto is a battle-proven kabuto (helmet) design born from cultural fusion and crafted with traditional Japanese precision. Part of Iron Mountain Armory’s Taisho Class – Elite Series, this helmet is inspired by European armor introduced to Japan during the Momoyama Period (1575–1615)—a time of innovation and warfare.
With the arrival of Portuguese and Spanish muskets, Japanese samurai sought new ways to protect themselves from firearm threats. The peach-like silhouette of the Momonari Kabuto, with its rounded and sloped structure, proved highly effective at deflecting musket fire. This design became renowned during the Campaign of Korea (1592–1598), particularly among mounted troops on Kyushu Island.
True to the original form, our senior Taisho-class katchū-shi handcraft this kabuto from two hammered steel plates, expertly joined at the crown in a style reminiscent of a clam shell. Every curve and contour is shaped by hand using traditional methods to ensure both historical accuracy and structural integrity. The smooth, ridgeless form gives this kabuto its signature “momo” (peach) appearance, making it both elegant and formidable.
This helmet is ideal for a Ko-Gashira (mid- to high-ranking samurai) or for collectors who value quality, detail, and historical faithfulness. Customize your helmet with your choice of mengu (facial armor), menpō (half-face with nose) or hanbō (lower face), as well as paint finish, art silk odoshi (lace) colors, and optional mustache designs.
