Description
Enhance Your Defense with the Flexibility of Chainmail Armor
Kusari Obi is a traditional samurai armor belt, designed to protect the waist and stomach while maintaining mobility in battle. This kusari (iron chainmail) belt is a vital auxiliary armor piece, offering lightweight yet effective protection against slashing and thrusting attacks. Worn around the waist like a sash or cummerbund, it serves as an additional layer of defense, shielding the gaps between the do (cuirass) and kusazuri (tassets).
During the Sengoku era, kusari obi were commonly used by samurai and shinobi (ninja) alike, providing flexible armor that could be worn over or under the urugi ito (armor lacing). Keeping with tradition, Iron Mountain Armory crafts each kusari obi using historically accurate techniques. The belt consists of a top layer of kusari butted mail, reinforced with two thick layers of asa (hemp linen) for added durability. Upon request, we offer additional padding for extra protection. For a more traditional battle-ready design, the kusari can be sewn inside the layers of asa, preventing chain splitting upon impact and reducing oxidation over time.
Ideal for samurai armor restoration, reenactments, martial arts training, and display, the kusari obi is a functional and historical addition to any warrior’s collection.
