Own the Armor That Defined an Era
Begin Your Samurai Journey Today!
The Okegawa Kachi Samurai Armor is the original and most sought-after set in our Kachi Samurai Armor series, expertly crafted by our apprentice katchû-shi (Japanese armor smith) at Iron Mountain Armory. Modeled after one of the most iconic designs of the Sengoku Era—the Tosei Yokohagi Okegawa Ni-Mai Dō—this armor set represents the perfect blend of practicality, protection, and timeless warrior aesthetics.
“Tosei” means “modern,” referring to post-1520 A.D. innovations in samurai armor-making. The Okegawa design revolutionized the battlefield with its horizontally overlapping lames (iron strips), which were riveted or laced together. This structure was more efficient to produce, offered superior durability, and adapted better to the evolving combat conditions of the time—including the introduction of European firearms. It became one of the most common and trusted armor types during the last century of the Sengoku period.
With each suit, your journey into samurai tradition is personalized. The Okegawa Ni-Mai Dō cuirass forms the foundation of this set and is painted, smoothed, and laced by hand in your chosen color and style. The kabuto (helmet), menpō (mask), and suneate (shin guards) can be selected and swapped to suit your aesthetic or historical preferences via the Extra Options menu.
Whether worn for martial arts, collected as a statement of cultural admiration, or displayed with pride in your home, this full-sized, fully functional armor set is your first step toward building your legacy. Add a traditional display box and stand for an even more impressive presence.

The armor is top notch and very nice overall. Only issue I had was one of the rope loops for the shoulder pieces came off very easy. I was able to repair it in about 15 minutes.
The kachi class of armour is the entry level into samurai armour ownership and I have to say it is absolutely fantastic!
I had a budget to work to and wanted value for money and this armour surpassed all of my expectations,I opted to have the armour with custom sizing too.
It is very well made and is a work of art, being beautifully crafted and is a wonderful thing to own and get enjoyment from.
some reviews often state going up a class to gashira but I have to say if you want to own your very own samurai armour and you are on a budget you will not be disappointed with a kachi class suit, they are remarkable value for money and in my humble opinion are in no way a “budget” suit.
My armour now sits proudly on display in my home and I get immense pleasure from owning, wearing and admiring it.
Great Armor But….
This is my very first suit of armor I’ve ever owned, so I never really knew what to expect. When I received the armor, I began to put it on. At first it was heavy, almost like two sacks of potatoes. However I was surprised to how quickly I endured and got used to the weight of the armor. It fits very well, the sleeves fit fine, the shin guards are nice. There are a few problems with it which is why I don’t completely give it 5 stars. First problem is the ‘Do’, or the chest piece. On your website I see the suit of armor with the rings on the chest piece, although mine didn’t have those rings. Also, there is a problem with the Menpo. Your pictures online provide photographic references of the iron hooks attached to the menpo, although I didn’t get any, making it more difficult for me to put it on. Those are my complaints, with my product not matching up to the pictures you’ve provided.
I am greatly appreciative and excited about my suit and the rest of the items I ordered. My armor suit arrived in perfect shape, no scuffs or scratches. I am also really pleased with the customer service received. The timing for both crafting and shipping was exactly as I was promised throughout the whole process. I would for sure recommend this great company to my friends and students at any time. Top-quality products and services.
Order the suit and use it for LARP. I had to add a little padding to the arms but other than that, the armor fits great and holds up well. A few scuffs from tumbling but other than that it is great.
