Description
Allow your ronin spirit to stand out while traveling!
The Roningasa is a wide, deep hat meticulously woven from bamboo palms, designed for the discerning samurai traveler. Its expansive brim offers superior protection from rain and sun, shielding the shoulders while the carefully designed front slits ensure your vision remains unobstructed. Inside, a round band called an atamadai provides a comfortable and secure fit, making this hat both practical and stylish.
Historically, this style of gasa was worn by wealthy travelers, ronin, retainers, shinobi (ninja), monks, and even affluent merchants throughout Japan, offering maximum protection from the elements. Today, the Roningasa has become synonymous with the image of the masterless samurai—the true ronin. It is sometimes referred to as a samurai hat or simply a ronin hat. In comparison, the similar takuhatsugasa features a deeper design for increased facial protection and anonymity, often preferred by samurai riding horseback.
Our Roningasa is handmade in Japan following traditional techniques, ensuring an authentic appearance and durability. With approximate dimensions of W21.6 x H13.7 inches (W55 x H35 cm), this hat is crafted with care and attention to detail. Please note that while the hat itself is reasonably priced, its size may result in higher shipping costs internationally.
