The Sengoku Momonari Kabuto is a faithfully recreated Taisho Class helmet, forged as part of our Elite Series by Iron Mountain Armory’s master katchū-shi (armor smiths). This “peach-shaped” kabuto was developed during the late Sengoku Era in response to the dramatic shift in battlefield tactics brought by the arrival of Portuguese and Spanish muskets.
Heavily influenced by the European morion-style helmets worn by visiting Spanish soldiers, the momonari design (literally “peach-shaped”) was a revolutionary leap in defense. Its rounded, ridgeless structure helped deflect musket balls, earning it a fierce reputation during the Campaign of Korea (1592–1598), particularly on the warfronts of Kyushu Island.
Our Taisho-class Sengoku Momonari Kabuto is handcrafted from five individual steel plates, each hammered and riveted together using traditional methods to create the smooth, bullet-deflecting curve of the original battlefield-ready design. This gendai (modern) reproduction honors the innovative spirit of the time while delivering a helmet that is both functional and awe-inspiring.
Recommended with a ho-ate (open face mengu), this kabuto is ideal for reenactors, martial artists, or elite collectors who seek a robust piece of armor with a commanding silhouette.
