Upgrade Your Samurai Armor with Traditional Brocade
Silk Brocade was the most commonly used material for lining samurai armor and crafting samurai clothing during the Edo Era (1603–1868). However, as the cost of silk has risen and its maintenance remains challenging, most modern armorers have transitioned to high-quality artificial silk (art. silk).
At Iron Mountain Armory, we use a heavy, thick art. silk blend primarily composed of polyester and rayon. This provides a durable, easy-to-maintain alternative while keeping costs reasonable. Staying true to tradition, we craft our thick brocades using a Jacquard loom, a weaving technique dating back to 1804. Just as new materials were introduced in Japan during the Edo period and incorporated into samurai armor and clothing, our art. silk brocade represents the natural evolution of traditional craftsmanship.
Each heavy art. silk brocade measures 75 x 100 cm (29.5 x 39 inches)—the ideal size for crafting sangu (samurai armor parts). If ordering multiple quantities, the fabric will be sent as one continuous length unless otherwise requested in the “Order Notes” section. For instance, selecting a quantity of 5 will result in a 75 x 500 cm piece of brocade.
Our art. silk brocade meets all the necessary specifications for repairing, replacing, or upgrading armor components. It is also perfect for DIY projects, cosplay, and traditional samurai clothing such as jinbaori (battle surcoat) and bakama (pleated pants).
Please Note: AS6, AS7, and AS8 feature a slight gold shimmer. Colors, textures, and patterns may vary slightly between batches. While we inspect every shipment for quality, minor differences may occur. Please note the material is hand cut, making the final cut +/- 2 cm in length/width. This item is generally in stock with our local distributor. However, we still need time to order and ship your order. Please allow at least 1 to 2 week for shipping of this item.
