Ignite Your Samurai Spirit with Traditional Elegance!

Iron Mountain Armory’s Hakama Shita (Traditional Samurai Top) has been meticulously researched and crafted based on authentic garments from Japan’s Sengoku and early Edo periods. By carefully selecting the most historically accurate and practical design elements, we offer a traditional samurai clothing top that perfectly blends historical authenticity, durability, and practicality.

Traditionally worn beneath a hakama, kimono, or as standalone attire, the Hakama Shita provides comfort, elegance, and versatility suitable for various occasions. Whether used for martial arts training, historical reenactments, cosplay, LARP, or simply as stylish casual wear, this traditional garment allows you to authentically embrace the samurai way of life and ignite your internal warrior spirit.

Iron Mountain Armory proudly offers two distinct and historically accurate Hakama Shita styles:

Style 1: Traditional Cross-Over Gi Top
This practical design features a crossover front, shorter side slits, and no lace ties on the lapels, providing a snug fit suitable for martial arts training and wearing under armor. Historically less formal, this style was commonly worn by samurai, monks, farmers, and peasants alike.

Style 2: Open Lapel with Odoshi Ties
A more formal variant with open lapels and adjustable odoshi ties, this versatile kimono-style top can be worn open at the front for formal occasions or securely wrapped around the body for combat or armor-wearing scenarios. Its longer side slits enhance adjustability and comfort. Historically exclusive to the Daimyo, samurai bushi, and ruling bakufu class, this elegant design signifies prestige and rank.

To ensure period authenticity, Iron Mountain Armory provides two era-specific fabric options:

  • Sengoku / Muromachi Era (Warring Era): Crafted from sturdy hemp linen, suitable for rigorous training and battle conditions.
  • Edo Era (Peaceful Era): Created from softer cotton influenced by European trade, or luxurious silk fabrics common during the Edo period, offering comfort and ease of movement.

Additional customization includes sleeve width options (wide or narrow) and optional lace ties for wide sleeves, securing them at the wrist or above the elbow, making it practical for active wear and adding extra protection under armor. Narrow sleeves are recommended for wearers of kote (armored sleeves), whereas wide sleeves feature ventilation openings at the armpits, useful for additional padding beneath armor.

Our Hakama Shita complements perfectly with traditional samurai hakama and juban shitagi (traditional undershirt). All garments are handcrafted with meticulous attention to detail, high-quality stitching, and optional decorative trim (fukurin), ensuring both durability and historical elegance.

Featured in the acclaimed Netflix and Smithsonian Channel docudrama “Age of Samurai: Battle for Japan,” our samurai clothing and accessories embody unmatched authenticity and quality.

Key Features & Benefits:

  • Authentic Historical Designs: Choose between Sengoku and Edo-period styles.
  • Era-Appropriate Materials: Hemp linen or soft cotton and luxurious silk.
  • Customizable Options: Select sleeve width, fabric, and custom sizing.
  • Versatile Use: Suitable for martial arts, reenactments, cosplay, and casual traditional attire.
  • Durable Construction: Expertly handcrafted to withstand regular use.

Ordering Tips: Custom measurements provided are guidelines; minor adjustments may be made by our seamstress to achieve an authentic traditional fit.
