Classic Samurai Elegance from the Heian Era
The Happuri is a historical mengu (facial armor) design originating from Japanās early Heian Period (794ā1185), worn by elite samurai and their retainers. Shaped like an inverted āU,ā this open-face armored mask was designed to protect the forehead and cheeks without restricting vision or breathāmaking it ideal for fast-moving battlefield tactics and long campaigns.
Crafted from iron or leather, the happuri remained a popular choice through the mid-Muromachi Period and experienced a revival during the Edo era. This particular reproduction is modeled after a surviving example from the Heian Era and reflects the minimalist strength and style favored by early warriors.
Iron Mountain Armory handcrafts this Gashira Class Happuri using traditional methods to create a fully functional piece of samurai heritage.
