Description
Honor the Red Devil of Tokugawa
The Ii Naomasa Zunari Kabuto is a tribute to one of the fiercest commanders of the late Sengoku Period—Ii Naomasa of the legendary Ii Clan. Crafted by the master Taisho-class katchū-shi (armorers) at Iron Mountain Armory, this Elite Series kabuto recreates the iconic headgear worn by the “Red Devils” of the Tokugawa forces.
Ii Naomasa (1561–1602) served Tokugawa Ieyasu with exceptional valor, earning his place as one of the Four Guardians of the Tokugawa, alongside Honda Tadakatsu, Sakakibara Yasumasa, and Sakai Tadatsugu. His forces struck fear on the battlefield, clad in brilliant shu urushi nuri (vermilion-lacquered armor), which gave rise to their fearsome title: Akai Oni—the Red Devils.
This zunari kabuto (head-shaped helmet) is forged from three individually cut and riveted plates, forming the distinctive hachi (bowl). The shikoro (neck guard) is shaped and hand-laced in odoshi sugake (simple hang) style using your chosen color of art silk odoshi. Inside, a carefully fitted ukebari (helmet lining) provides both comfort and lasting structure.
The included hanbō (chin and cheek guard) is embossed with the Ii Clan mon and finished with matching lacing along the tare (throat guard). This is the same mengu (facial armor) style commonly worn by front-line samurai during the height of Japanese warfare—rugged, iconic, and deeply personal.
Whether you choose to order in striking vermilion or another color scheme of your choice, this kabuto embodies the fearless spirit of a warrior who led from the front and never feared death.
