Lead with Strength, Command with Style!
The Ko-Gashira Jinbaori is a traditional samurai vest (陣羽織, surcoat) specifically crafted for mid-ranking samurai responsible for organizing troops and preparing them for battle. Historically popularized around 1550 A.D., the Jinbaori became a staple garment worn over armor to protect the samurai and his armor from the harsh elements. Throughout the Sengoku Period, this functional garment evolved into an elaborate and decorative representation of a samurai’s wealth, power, and refined aesthetic taste.
The distinctive design of the Ko-Gashira Jinbaori features a sleeveless structure, typically waist-length, characterized by a high, open collar extending down the front. Reinforced shoulder panels provide added structure, ensuring the vest maintains a distinguished and straight appearance. Traditionally versatile, Jinbaori could be made from various durable and luxurious materials, including wool, brocade, cotton, and later silk, suitable for formal occasions or battlefield engagements. For enhanced protection, we also offer optional kikko (armored plating) incorporated into the shoulder sections.
