Description
Flexible Defense Rooted in Samurai Tradition
The Kikkō Gane Kimono by Iron Mountain Armory is a faithful reproduction of a historical armored garment worn during Japan’s early Edo Era. Originally crafted for daimyō (feudal lords), high-ranking samurai, and possibly even shinobi (ninja), this under-armor kimono offers flexible yet formidable protection. Sewn with small kikkō (hexagonal armor plates) sandwiched between layers of cloth, it forms a lightweight tatami (folding) armor capable of defending against slashes, stabs, and blunt strikes.
Historically, the Kikkō Gane Kimono would have been worn over a hitatare (formal samurai robe), beneath a haori (jacket), or as an extra layer of defense atop the dō (cuirass). Despite its protective function, it maintains the soft silhouette of traditional Japanese clothing, allowing for mobility and discreet wear in formal or urban environments.
Iron Mountain Armory continues this legacy by offering fully customizable options. Whether you’re a martial artist, historical reenactor, or simply a collector of traditional samurai gear, this armor-blended kimono offers a unique combination of practicality, history, and style.
