Historical accounts suggest that Tokugawa Ieyasu’s own life was saved by his Nanban armor during the Siege of Muraki, proving its value beyond mere status.

As Japan’s own armorers mastered European techniques, the wasei nanban-dō (Japanese-crafted Nanban cuirasses) emerged, blending Western durability with the refined artistry of Japanese warfare.
