The Zunari Hachi Kabuto is Iron Mountain Armory’s Gashira class interpretation of the traditional zunari kabuto, designed to deliver both authenticity and practicality. Named “hachi”—meaning “bowl”—this helmet features a smooth, iconic head-shaped silhouette crafted from a single sheet of steel. While it appears nearly identical to the classic three-plate zunari, its construction offers a more efficient, modern solution without compromising traditional aesthetics.

In historical zunari kabuto, three plates were joined to form the bowl, and the surface was then meticulously coated in layers of urushi (lacquer). These layers would seal the seams and create a smooth, unified appearance, allowing the helmet to resemble the natural contour of the human head. Our Zunari Hachi Kabuto honors that form by shaping the bowl from one solid steel sheet, eliminating the need for seams while still echoing the original design philosophy.

While more economical than our Taisho-class version—which is handcrafted using individual plates—this Gashira-class model is more faithful to the zunari look than typical molded reproductions. It’s an ideal choice for warriors seeking authenticity, function, and value.

Each shikoro (neck guard) is hand-cut and laced using the odoshi sugake (simple hang) style, with your choice of odoshi (lace) color for a personalized touch. The interior is fitted with a traditional ukebari (helmet lining), offering structure and comfort whether worn for display, reenactment, or martial arts training.

You may also select your preferred style of mengu (facial armor) to accompany this kabuto, allowing for further customization of your samurai ensemble.
